The Seneca County Department of Health enforces laws and regulations which protect the health and safety of community members.

A swimming pool shall mean a structure, together with buildings and appurtenances used in connection therewith, intended for bathing, swimming or diving purposes, made of concrete, masonry, metal, or other impervious material, located either indoors or outdoors.

All pools in Seneca County open for use by members of the public are regulated by the Environmental Health Services (EHS) Section of the Seneca County Health Department. Backyard pools serving private homes are exempt from State Regulation. The regulations covering swimming pools are found in the New York State Sanitary Code.

Some pools operate all year long while others only operate on a seasonal basis. Seasonal pools undergo a pre-operational inspection prior to opening for the season. All pools receive an operational inspection on an annual basis.
