If you are interested in the Maternal Child Health Program or need support from a CLC, please call (315) 539-1920, Monday thru Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm.

The Seneca County Maternal Child Health Program offers education and support to women and families to promote choosing good preventative health practices.

Our Certified Lactation Counselors (CLC) are available to provide education and support through home visits and/or phone calls. The education and support offered by our CLC’s could include:

• Pre-natal and post-partum education and support
• Referrals to other health professionals or programs
• Lactation counseling and support including proper breast milk storage
• Local resources for parents
• Newborn education and support
     o Infant care and safety
     o Safe sleep – SIDS
     o Growth and Development
     o Infant and child car seats for eligible families
• Safe home environment for your newborn and family resources and education
     o Substance/tobacco use and cessation
     o Domestic violence
     o Second hand smoke
     o Lead poisoning prevention
     o Carbon monoxide detectors and fire alarms
     o Immunization guidelines per the CDC

Breastfeeding in the Workplace

New York State Labor Law Section 206-C protects your right to breastfeed in the workplace. For information on breastfeeding in the workplace visit Breast Milk Expression in the Workplace | Department of Labor (ny.gov).

Have You Heard Of Baby Café?

A Baby Café is another free resource available for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers to share their experiences with other mom’s while having additional access to support from CLC’s.

Currently Seneca County does not have a Baby Café; however, the Finger Lakes Breast Feeding Coalition is now offering a virtual Baby Café options. You can find more information about the virtual Baby Café below.
